About The Ocean County Pilates Meetup

Pilates (pi-LAH-teez) is a program of exercise and movement that will stretch, strengthen and balance the body. It was named after its creator Joseph H. Pilates and has been practiced in the United States since the 1920's.

Pilates is known for giving you a strong 'core' - deep abdominal muscles and muscles supporting the spine. It also makes all of your other muscles strong, lean and flexible. It teaches you mind-body movement control and can improve balance, coordination and posture.

For people with injuries or physical limitations, pilates is a great practice! It can be modified to accommodate just about any injury or physical limitation. It is low impact and designed to improve your weakness to give you an evenly conditioned body less prone to injury.
